Who we are

FirstTripChina (firsttripchina.com) is an independent China travel guide written and operated by Yunjie, based in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, email hello@firsttripchina.com.

Information we collect

We collect two kinds of information:

• Information you give us directly. When you use the feedback form or subscribe to email updates, we collect the email address and message content you submit. Nothing more — there is no account system and no login.
• Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we use analytics tools that collect standard usage data: pages visited, approximate location (country / region level, derived from IP), device and browser type, referring site, and how you interact with pages (clicks, scrolling). This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.

Analytics and cookies

We use the following third-party services, which may set cookies or use similar technologies in your browser:

• Google Analytics 4 — measures traffic and usage patterns so we know which guides help readers most. See Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
• Microsoft Clarity — records anonymized session interactions (mouse movement, scrolling, clicks) to help us find usability problems. See Microsoft's Privacy Statement.
• Google Fonts — loads the fonts used on this site from Google's servers, which receive your IP address as part of the font request.

Advertising

We may display ads served by third-party advertising partners, including Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or www.aboutads.info. Visitors in the European Economic Area and the UK will be shown a consent message before any advertising cookies are set.

Email subscriptions

If you subscribe to updates, your email address is stored with Brevo, our email service provider, and used only to send you the updates you asked for. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list immediately. We never sell, rent, or share your email address with anyone.

Hosting and data storage

This site is hosted on Vercel, with content stored in a Neon (PostgreSQL) database. Like any web host, Vercel processes standard server logs (IP address, request time, user agent) to deliver the site. Data may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to see, correct, or delete any personal information we hold about you (in practice: your feedback messages and subscription email). Email hello@firsttripchina.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Children's privacy

This site is a travel guide intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data — for example, by adding a new analytics or advertising service — we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be noted prominently.
